Riding Out of Taos
I just
wanted to send you a thanks on behalf of my family and myself. You talked
us into to doing the Gavilin Trail and Gold Hill ride last week instead
of the Wheeler Peak ride, and we had an amazing time! What a beautiful
day! This was our second time to ride with you in Taos and both times we
were lucky enough to have Bob as our guide. He really seems to love his
job and he is an excellent guide (and very patient with those of us who
get a touch of altitude sickness). I must admit that I am quite envious
of him!
What
a life!
Attached
are some of the photos I took on the trail.
We had
so much fun on the ride that we spent the next afternoon driving the Enchanted
Circle trying to pick out the peaks we rode on! We are pretty sure we were
able to pick out Gold Hill, so I attached one of those photos as well.
We even bought a topographical map so we could highlight the trail on it.
Again,
thank you so much. This was such an incredible way to view Taos and the
wilds that surround it! We will definitely be calling on your stables again
and again. Maybe next time will be in Big Bend or even the Mexico
trip!

Longhorn Cattle
Drive, a Dream Come True
From
a Letter to Andy Samson of Texas Parks and Wildlife
Dear
Mr. Samson,
I just
completed the fall CATTLE DRIVE at the Big Bend Ranch Headquarters at Sauceda.
To participate in a cattle drive has been a dream of mine since I was about
8 or 9 years old. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would get
the chance to actually do it.
I found
the cattle drive information when I looked up Big Bend on the internet
and clicked on Lajitas Stables. My son, his wife and myself had taken an
hour ride at the stables about 2 years earlier. While looking at all the
rides they offered, I saw "cattle drive". It was too much to hope for but
I took a chance and checked it out. What a thrill it was to find out that
I could actually take part in a real life cattle drive. My son (35 years
old) and I (58 years old) signed up for the October 5, 6 & 7, 2001
Fall drive. I don't think that I have ever been so excited. We had to drive
about 750 miles to get to the ranch but it was well worth it. We had one
heck of a fine time!
The Range
Boss, Ranch Staff & Lajitas Stables Staff were fantastic people. They
were very experienced and treated us to an adventure of a lifetime.

If
at all possible, I will be making another drive next year. Being able to
see these historic Texas Longhorn cows, steers, bulls and calves in the
wild like they were years ago was exhilarating.
By
keeping the bloodline pure, it is a tribute to the people of Texas. Please
do everything that you can to keep the cattle drive
experience
available for everyone. I want my grandkids to someday have the opportunity
to live a piece of our Texas history also. If this opportunity to experience
the cattle drive is no longer there, every Texan will have truly lost a
part of their heritage. It took about 50 years for me to finally live my
dream. I hope others will also have the same opportunity to live theirs.
Thank you so much for making this available to us!
