Buena Suerte Three Day Trip
2 person minimum
$475 per person (does not include taxes or state park fees)
Sample Itinerary Only:
Day 1:  Meet at Lajitas Stables for check in and a short individual riding lesson.  We leave the stables and wind cross country towards Fresno Creek.  The gentle terrain along this portion of the trail allows you a chance to get acquainted with your trusty mount. Along the way we will pass through an honest to goodness ghost town. Built during the cinnabar mining era, its empty stone ruins are a mute testimony to the past and to the ephemeral nature of man's get rich quick schemes. Tonight we camp out under the famous night skies of the Big Bend. We are the darkest spot in the U.S. and our spectacular star show proves it.
Day 2:  Awaken to the quiet grandeur of the Big Bend as the smell of a campfire breakfast drifts by.  After watering our horses in Fresno Creek, we will ride up the old U.S. Calvary road toward the base of the Solitario. This dramatic rock formation showcases 500 million years worth of geological history. Take a moment to ponder the meaning of time amid the pristine silence. Both of these - time and silence - are precious commodities in today's world. Evening finds us back at our Buenas Suerte camp where your guide once again works campfire culinary magic.
Day 3:  This morning we will saddle up and ride the High Rios trail back toward the mouth of Brownstone Canyon. After a refreshing break next to the clear waters of Fresno Creek, we wind our way through pink and ocher colored hills to Contrabando Mesa. Leaving the lowlands behind, our trail climbs up and over "Ventana del Arcos Iris" - Spanish for Rainbow Window. The view from here is spectacular. Old Mexico sweeps away to the south, and to the north is the rugged, broken country of what the Old West was truly like. The romance lingers on here. One last look and then we ride on to Lajitas and its gentle amenities.
