Itinerary
With no set itinerary,
this trip is very flexible as far as day-to-day activities. Join
in the everyday operations of a small working ranch in Old Mexico, “Rancho
Picachos.” This trip is a home-stay with the Tercero family as your
hosts, where you can truly experience the rustic, authentic life of the
peoples in the Frontera Region of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Your guide and the
ranch owner, Isael Tercero, will accompany you each day. Daily rides
will include visits to ancient Indian sites, abandoned candellia wax camps,
both with rich histories and a few tall tales, as well as scenic rides
along the mountains that tower over the Rio Grande. There may be
a few ranch chores thrown in, such as herding the family’s goats. Breakfasts
and suppers are hand-made by Chela Tercero and are served family style.
If you’re looking
for something that truly takes you off the beaten path, this trip is made
for you! Leave your watches behind and settle into the slower rhythm
of border life. No tourist trappings here.
Additional
Information:
This extraordinary trip visits an area of
Mexico seldom seen by tourists. Consequently, a certain amount of
flexibility and sensitivity for a foreign culture goes a long way toward
making this an enjoyable experience (When in Rome…..) We have been
in operation in Mexico for 12 years with cooperation and permission of
the local population. In addition to a Lajitas Stables wrangler,
each trip is staffed with a Mexican citizen from the area whose insights
and interpretations provide a unique window into another way of life.
We Will
Provide:
Qualified guides, horses, tack, camping equipment,
vehicle support, tents, all meals, Bed and Breakfast accommodations, and
